If you had the choice, what sort of devolved political region would you live in? There have been a few proposals in the South West for different forms of devolution, principal among these are the Government's seven-county South West Regional Assembly, a Cornish assembly and the ten-county Wessex region as defined by the Wessex movement.
In addition to these there are various other ideas and possibilities floating around. Some of which have been thought out and others have been mere suggestions. In terms of regional devolution the Government gets the last say, but following the rejection of the North East Regional Assembly they might be a bit more open to suggestion. If a large enough number of people were to tell the Government what sort of devolution (if any) they wanted for Somerset, then perhaps they could be persuaded. No harm in trying. This is some information on the devolved Regions of England. There was no actual proposal for the South West to have a referendum on whether it wanted an assembly or not. Also, the creation of the Wessex movement's proposed regiom would also include Somerset, plus nine other counties. Please note, the Cornish are strongly against being a part of any region other than a purely Cornish one.
Below are some proposed and possible regions that Somerset could be part of, vote for the one that most appeals to you please.
